Erect Architecture

Nomination for Alternative Gold Medal

Since January, Susanne and Sarah have joined Part W to discuss the possibility for our built environment to be designed by, with and for everybody in a fair and equal manner. This kicked off with the ‘RIBA Gold Medal Campaign’ where potentially overlooked women are suggested for the prestigious award.

Susanne nominated Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky. She was the first female Austrian architect and a communist activist in the Austrian-German resistance to Nazism. She is mostly known for the famous 'Frankfurt Kitchen' but importantly was  instrumental in the design of social housing & community buildings for May's New Frankfurt.
