We are currently involved in the expansion of York Way Estate in north London, comprising the delivery of 91 new social homes on the estate as well as the reimagining of the communal landscaped areas.
Our design for the landscape seeks to celebrate and enhance the existing open character of the estate, maintaining views along York Way and framing open lawns which are much prized by the residents. At the centre of the estate, the currently underused car park podium will become an exciting place to meet, socialise and play. Soft planting and trees, as well as new play and fitness equipment, will be introduced to create different spaces for fast and slow activities. Across the estate, prioritising pedestrian movement and children’s play has been a key goal to redress the imbalance that exists between vehicles and people. Furthermore, with the site's former life as the Metropolitan Cattle Market, we've tried to create special moments within the landscape to mark this history and give ways for existing and new residents to connect to the site's past through play and discovery.
